Lavish Victorian Gothic church built at the expense of the 3rd Marquess of Bute in 1870, replacing a simple Norman building. Architect John Prichard of Llandaff used multi-coloured brick and varieties of stone to create a 'glorious polychromatic interior'. (John Betjeman) Fine Victorian fittings, many using local pink Penarth alabaster. Good glass by Burlison & Grylls; gilded Comper reredos, of Risen Christ & 12 Apostles. Wall tablets, tracery and bell from the old church.
Unique Bute Mausoleum, a fine example of Victorian funerary architecture, with polished granite tombs of the 1st Marquess and 8 family members. This mortuary chapel is the only Bute burial site in Wales.
